This video presents an extended example from Mod8Script.R that deals with some fictitious quiz score data. Here we introduce several new functions for computing summary statistics and the t.test() function for testing the equality of two population means. We also illustrate subscripting an R vector, introduce model formulas, factors, and data frames, and show how to write a simple function in R. We also demonstrate several plotting functions including boxplot(), stripchart(), abline(), title(), and legend(). The main point of this video is to give some indication of R's capabilities and to illustrate how one typically works with R to do interactive data analysis. We will return to many of the functions and techniques introduced here in later learning modules to teach them more systematically.
