In Module 13 we cover the implementation of basic statistical methods in R. We begin with a discussion of some functions to compute summary statistics and to characterize univariate distributions. In this video we discuss the summary() and describe() functions, which both produce succinct statistical summaries of several variables at once (variables in a data frame). We also illustrate the qqnorm() and qqline() function for producing a normal qualtile-quantile plot. Several other functions are mentioned that produce simple summaries, most of which we have encountered previously during the course.
This video provides a useful introduction to the topic of statistical methods in R, but some of the specific topics covered here may be familiar to students with previous experience with R or from earlier modules in the course. Therefore, while I encourage you to watch this video, it is not essential.
